Pre-service Teachers’ Perceived Understandings and Practices of Intercultural Communicative Competence in EFL Teaching

English teaching in the 21st century needs to also address learners’ successful engagement with a global milieu intercultural settings, which remains challenging for many EFL teachers worldwide. It was evidenced by number of studies showing that are not well-prepared integrate classrooms. becomes crucial find out possible causes their unpreparedness lessons. This study carried record Indonesian pre-service teachers’ perceived understandings communicative competence (ICC) and practice implementing ICC elements during practicum program. employed survey using an electronic questionnaire consisting 31 items. The involved 106 participants both alumni undergraduate students ELT program from six different universities Indonesia. results were then complemented interview obtained selected participants. findings showed demonstrated excellent understanding elements; yet, they did frequently implement ICC-related activities teaching. minimal integration possibly due some external factors such as restricted time, curriculum, students’ proficiency.
